Delhi Police is considering acquiring special surveillance vans to monitor the situation in crucial locations especially during the Commonwealth Games besides VIP security and law and order problems.

Official sources said the proposal to procure such vans is currently under study with the likelihood of a team going to the US to study such vehicles used by both FBI and the local police there.

They said the vans would come mounted with high-end revolving cameras, which would enable the police to capture live images from all angles.

The vehicles would have a seating capacity of about 3 to 4 people and will be fitted with LCD screens besides a host of other gadgets.

The vans would send images captured to a central control room being set up at the police headquarters via satellite.

"The surveillance vehicles would come handy at places where there are no CCTV cameras. At the time of a riot, or on VIP routes, such vans can come handy," they said.
