A 23-year-old man allegedly bludgeoned his 27-year-old brother to death using a dumbbell after the two had a fight over the latter’s girlfriend visiting their rented accommodation in north Delhi’s Burari . The incident was reported in the wee hours of Monday.
Hitesh Kumar Verma, a Sanskrit professor, had reportedly been living with his brother Himanshu, a DU student, in Delhi for the past two years. The brothers hail from Jhansi.
According to the police, on Monday, at 1.30am Hitesh called his girlfriend home and asked Himanshu to leave the house. Himanshu, however, refused saying that he had nowhere to go. An argument ensued and Verma allegedly threw a dumbbell at Himanshu and even punched him in the face. In retaliation, Himanshu picked up the same dumbbell and thrashed his brother with it. He repeatedly hit the dumbbell on his head and killed him.
According to the police, they received a PCR call at around 3 am by Himanshu, almost one hour after the incident. To evade arrest, Himanshu reportedly cooked up a story and told the police that two men had barged inside their house and murdered his brother.
”Himanshu stated that Verma fell in love with a girl after he started his job, but kept the relationship a secret. He feared that Himanshu would complain to their parents. However, after some time, Hitesh told Himanshu about the girl and she started visiting them often. Himanshu said that earlier she visited once a week but of late she started visiting them every day. He said that each time she visited, Verma would ask him to leave the house which enraged him,” an investigator said.
During interrogation, Himanshu told the cops that he was jealous of his brother and hated it when he was asked to go out. He said that Hitesh was very dominating and did not treat him well. Police have registered a case of murder against Himanshu.
