The art fraternity of Delhi has always come up with innovative concepts to promote the cause of women emancipation and safety. The latest to do so was the Umapati Group which staged a play based on the events of December 16, 2012.

Directed by SP Singh Sengar, the play was titled Serious Comedy and was performed on January 4 at Sri Ram Centre, Mandi House in Delhi.

Though the characters were the work of fictions, but they used properties which reminded the audience of the terrorising incidents of December 16.

The makers of the play posed some serious questions about the utility of the existing laws, and also initiated a debate about the current situation of the women empowerment in India.

Nityapriya played the central role of Nibha.
