Thousands of memory chips, worth over R93 lakh, were recovered from two Delhi residents at the Chennai airport on Tuesday, customs officials said.
Officials said more than 64,000 Micro SD cards were found wrapped in the legs of Ashok Kumar Rattan and Pooja Talwar, who were caught while travelling by a Thai Airways flight from Bangkok to Delhi.
“The memory cards were concealed in polythene packets, wrapped with cello tapes and tied to their legs with stockings, running from thigh to ankle,” said a senior customs department official, requesting not to be named.
While Rattan had 30,000 pieces wrapped to his legs, 32,400 chips were recovered from Talwar. The seized chips cost more than R93.04 lakh, the official said, adding that both the passengers had been arrested.
