In the third consecutive case of road rage reported in the past three days, a 35-year-old businessman was thrashed brutally and his parents misbehaved with by three drunken men when his car grazed their vehicle in outer Delhi’s Rohini on Sunday night.
Police said one of the accused has been arrested while two are still absconding.
According to the police the incident took place at around 9.30 pm when the victim, Amarjeet Chopra, was returning back home along with his parents to Sector 6, Rohini.
“As he neared the red light of sector 6-7, their Wagon R car grazed a Swift Dzire from behind which was waiting at the red signal,” said a police official.
Police said that soon after the incident Mayank, Akash and Saurav, all aged 25 years, came out of their car and began abusing Chopra, which led to an argument.
“The argument soon spiralled out of proportion and turned violent. The accused then thrashed Chopra brutally with a rod and punched his face several times. They also misbehaved with his parents when they resisted,” said a police official.
The men then turned towards his car and vandalised it completely. Chopra was rushed to the hospital from where the PCR was informed. The family had noted down the car’s registration number on the basis of which the police were able to track one of them down,” said a police official.
Police said an FIR under IPC sections 379 (theft), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 427 (mischief causing damage up to the amount of Rs 50) has been registered against the accused. They are on the lookout for his accomplices.
Police said that Mayank does animation work while the other two work at a call centre. Chopra on the other hand works with a private firm and goes to the US frequently. He had come to India for a vacation.
