To take stock of sanitation conditions in the city, newly elected Mayor of Delhi, Rajni Abbi, has said that she will make surprise visit to different areas of the city.
On Wednesday, Abbi visited Rohini zone to review the same.
Ever since she won last week, Abbi has been declaring that her biggest priority is to improve the sanitation situation in the city. After her visit to Rohini, she said that, she found several cases where contractors and officials have not maintained cleanliness of the area.
“I have spoken to them and issued directions. Sometimes contractors don’t bother about keeping their areas clean, since they feel they will simply get away. It is mainly to keep tab on them that I have decided to conduct surprise visits,” said Abbi.
She further said that she has written to the municipal commissioner of MCD, KS Mehra, asking him to inform the deputy commissioners of all the 12 zones of MCD, that she can conduct surprise checks at any time.
“If needed I will visit all the 272 wards of Delhi and check the situation. MCD runs on the money paid by the public and so they should at least have a garbage free neighbourhood,” she said.
Abbi will also review MCD’s door-to-door garbage collection system which is maintained by private companies introduced a few months back.
Currently, it is implemented in Civil Lines and Rohini zones and some parts of Dwarka.
Abbi has also sought detail report of permissions granted to various agencies including individuals for road cutting during the last four years and restoration work carried out by the civic agency thereafter.
On Monday, she wrote to the engineer-in-chief, in this regard, asking him to provide a specified compilation.
