A Delhi court on Tuesday commenced the trial in the 2008 serial blasts case. The court recorded the statements of some doctors who said that the victims had suffered injuries due to the impact of the blasts allegedly triggered by Indian Mujahideen militants.
The doctors, four from Lady Hardinge Medical College and one from Maulana Azad Medical College, deposed before Additional Sessions Judge Santosh Snehi Mann and supported the prosecution’s theory that the victims died and were injured due to the impact of the explosion.
The blasts that had occurred in quick succession in crowded localities on September 13, 2008, had left 26 people dead and 135 injured.
Five cases were registered in connection with the explosions at Gaffar Market in Karol Bagh, Barakhamba Road and Central Park in Connaught Place, M-Block Market in Greater Kailash and recovery of bomb near India Gate.
The doctors had performed the autopsy on the bodies and were also cross-examined by the lawyers of the alleged militants and the case is listed for hearing on July 13.
The court had earlier framed charges against 13 suspected Indian Mujahideen modules for their alleged role in the serial blasts.
They were charged with waging war against the state and killing people in the blast.
