Delhi sizzles at 42.5 degree Celsius

Scorching heat returned to the capital Monday, after a couple of days of respite, with mercury climbing by three notches to touch a maximum of 42.5 degree Celsius.

The weatherman has predicted no relief for Tuesday with the maximum likely to touch 44 degrees.

Today's maximum was two degrees above the normal temperature for this time of the season and 3.2 degrees up from yesterday's 39.2 degrees, the Meteorological department said.

The weekend was not that hot for the capital as the mercury remained below 40 degree Celsius.

The minimum was recorded at 26.1 degree Celsius, two degrees below normal, as against yesterday's 26.5 degrees.

High humidity levels also added to Delhiites' woes.

The humidity was recorded between 13 and 65 per cent.

The Met office has predicted a clear sky and ruled out possibility of rain tomorrow. The temperature is likely to be between 27 and 44 degrees.

The maximum had touched 45.4 degrees last week, the season's highest.
