Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi will meet chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday to discuss the law and order situation in the country, a day after the CM renewed his long-standing demand for handing over of Delhi Police to the city government.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will meet police commissioner BS Bassi on Monday to discuss law and order in the city, a day after the AAP leader reiterated his long-standing demand for handing over control of Delhi Police to his government.

Keeping up his tirade against the Centre on the functioning of Delhi Police, Kejriwal urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to look into his demand seriously, alleging that law and order in the capital was "on a decline".

Kejriwal renewed his demand for his government to be given control of Delhi Police after a 19-year-old girl was brutally stabbed and killed by two stalkers in Anand Parbat area on Thursday. The girl’s parents said police had not acted on several complaints filed by their daughter.

Delhi Police is currently controlled by the Union home ministry.

Bassi told the media on Sunday that he will try to dispel “misconceptions” about the functioning of Delhi Police during his meeting with Kejriwal.

“I will definitely go and meet him and we will exchange our thoughts. There is a possibility of him telling us something useful and maybe I will be able to share something informative about policing because I have been working for 38 years in the department,” he said.

Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia on Saturday visited the teenage girl’s home, where people told them that there is no police patrolling in Anand Parbat area and that some policemen too were apparently involved in the incident.

During his visit, Kejriwal announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the girl’s family and ordered a magisterial probe into the murder. He criticised Delhi Police for the "deteriorating" law and order situation.

"The only reason the girl died is due to police inaction," an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporter said. "Despite complaints from the girl, they didn't take the matter seriously. We now want the police to investigate the matter and take action against the killers."

AAP has been at loggerheads with Delhi Police over a number of issues and the party has stepped up its attack against the force after the arrest of two of its MLAs. It has been accusing Delhi Police of "bias" against it, saying its legislators are being "targeted" under political pressure.

On Sunday, AAP workers organised a protest against Delhi Police, holding it responsible for the killing of the teenage girl. They said the force has failed to provide security to women.
