Fed up of his father’s frequent drunken fights with his mother, a Class 9 student murdered him in Rohini Sector 16 on Sunday night, police said.
The 14-year-old boy, who was apprehended later, confessed to have stabbed his father, an auto-rickshaw driver. He allegedly told the police that had he not intervened, his father would have strangled his mother. The juvenile justice board sent the teenager to a correction home on Monday.
A senior police officer refused to divulge the name of the victim to protect the identity of the juvenile in conflict with the law. He said the teenager was frustrated with his father’s habit of getting drunk every day and picking up fights with his mother, and sometimes neighbours.
An hour after getting a warning from the police for fighting with his wife on Sunday night, the victim returned home around 11pm, drunk. He soon picked up with his wife again.
“His wife had approached the police around 10pm after he started beating her up in an inebriated condition. The policemen warned the man and let the couple go. While the woman went home, the auto-rickshaw driver went somewhere and consumed alcohol again,” the officer said.
“Around midnight, the boy woke up to the usual sounds of quarrel between his parents and saw his father trying to strangle his mother. He tried to rescue his mother but failed. In a moment of rage, he picked up a kitchen knife and attacked his father.
The boy stabbed the victim in the chest several times,” the officer said.
The victim collapsed to the ground and his wife raised an alarm, alerting the neighbours. Having realised what he has done, the boy left the house towards a nearby gurdwara.
The neighbours called up the police control room. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital in the PCR van but doctors declared him dead on arrival, the officer said.
A case of murder was registered at the KN Katju Marg police station. Police teams were sent to nab the boy, and within a couple of hours they apprehended the teen outside the local gurdwara.
