Residents of the national capital are more satisfied than earlier with public services like health, education and transport, a new survey reveals.
The social audit conducted by the Public Affairs Foundation (PAF), Bangalore, was aimed at determining the level of satisfaction in various services being offered by different departments of the government like education, health, transport, Public Distribution System (PDS), the sub-registrar office, issues of certificates and water tankers.
A presentation on the interim report was made in a meeting in New Delhi on Friday that was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The study was conducted on the request of the Delhi government.
"Major pointers from the report states that there has been increase in citizens' satisfaction across services, constant service improvement, commendable targeting of pro-poor services, visible impact of reforms and increase in awareness about citizen's charters depicting general information displayed prominently in the offices where number of footfalls daily is quite substantial," an official statement said.
It said that while the satisfaction levels in health had gone up to 64 per cent from 50 per cent, education saw an increase from 40 per cent in the last survey released in 2006 to 58 per cent in 2008.
"The report states that there has been a substantial improvement in satisfaction level. In respect of outpatients in hospitals, the numbers of have gone up from 50 per cent in first survey to 64 per cent in second," it further said.
"In case of schools it has gone up from 40 to 58 per cent, and from 38 to 51 per cent in motor licensing office. Overall level of dis-satisfaction has decreased against reported level in first survey. It has also been stated that there has been an illustrious improvement in various services over the last two years," it said.
PAF interviewed around 18,000 people to ascertain their level of satisfaction in respect of services being offered by various departments during 2008.
