The Delhi government may waive the 20% value added tax (VAT) on the Rs 7.13-per-litre increase in the petrol price. This would bring down the retail price of the fuel by Rs 1.50.

Delhi government sources said chief minister Sheila Dikshit may announce reduction in VAT while presenting the Delhi budget on Monday. With assembly polls due in Delhi in November 2013, the state government is keen to reduce the burden on citizens.
