The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) continued with their demolition drive in the Capital on Monday after taking a break for the weekend. Hammers again fell in the Central Zone where the demolition drive has continued for a long time. Three properties were also demolished in the Rohini zone.
On Monday, the civic agency demolished one illegal floor in Tughlakabad Extension and Jangpura area. Also demolitions were carried out in Amar Colony, Lajpat Nagar where the illegal floors of two properties were raised.
According to an MCD official, “We are demolishing any kind of ongoing illegal construction. Today also we demolished illegal floors cropping up in these constructions. We will continue with our drive in the days to come.”
Two properties were also demolished in the Karol Bagh zone. The MCD till now has not met any kind of resistance from the residents. “The buildings we demolish are under construction so we are not disrupting any body’s life or throwing out anyone out of the house. But we are not taking any chances and we take along adequate police cover anywhere we do conduct our drive,” said an MCD official.
Two properties were also sealed in the Rohini Zone. Most of the buildings being sealed are due to the orders of the High Court appointed Court Committee. Earlier last week the civic agency had also sealed 28 shops in the Amar Colony, Lajpat Nagar area that were according to the MCD running illegally on DDA land. These were scores of furniture shops, which were running illegally.
