Just a day after his marriage, Shravan Kumar, 25, was killed after an unidentified vehicle hit him near the toll plaza in Kapashera during early Tuesday morning. The dense fog is believed to be the reason behind the accident. Kumar’s body lay unclaimed and was spotted only after two hours of the accident.
Kumar, a courier boy, was on his way to Delhi from Gurgaon when the accident took place. His badly damaged motorcycle was also found at the spot. The police got a call around 3am on Tuesday, informing them about the accident.
“When we reached the accident site, he was already dead. We recovered a marriage certificate on him, which said he got married only a day before,” Sharad Aggarwal, DCP (southwest) said.
The police said they have registered a case of accident and were investigating the matter.
His older brother, who lives in Gurgaon, was contacted in the morning. Yet, he did not come to claim the body, till the evening. The body has been sent to the morgue at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
The police said Kumar may not have informed his family about the marriage and kept it under wraps.
“We can initiate further action only after his family comes to claim the body. We are trying to find out where was he going to at the time of the incident,” said a police officer.
In another incident, a policeman was injured when his motorcycle skidded on the road near Najafgarh. The police said the road had become slippery due to the moisture in the air and the cop lost his balance.
