An online fight with his wife made a 33-year-old NRI hang himself in his Vasant Kunj home.
According to the police, Dheeraj had come to India in 2009 to look after his ailing father who was in coma since 2009. His wife is pursuing MBA in UK. On Monday night, he had been chatting with his wife, when she asked him to send her money.
The police said that financial troubles and emotional strain may have forced him to take the extreme step. Dheeraj had been in depression due to his father’s illness and the ongoing financial crisis. “Dheeraj had spent a lot of money on his father’s treatment. When his wife asked for money, he got angry and even broke his laptop. After that, he went to his room and hanged himself,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.
Dheeraj had studied in UK and had been living there with his wife before he returned to India in 2009. His father used to run a property business.
Dheeraj’s brother, who also lives in Vasant Kunj’s sector D-7, discovered his body. He rushed him to Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) where the doctors declared him brought dead. The doctors at the hospital informed the police, which took the body in its custody.
“We haven’t recovered any suicide note, and so no reason can be established behind the act. The matter is suspicious as we were not informed by the victim’s family. Dheeraj’s wife has been informed and post-mortem will be conducted after her arrival,” the officer said.
A case has been registered.
