The memorial will come up at a 6.30-acre plot at the northern end of Shanti Path in the heart of the diplomatic zone of the Capital. The design is the winning entry of the National Architectural Design Competition (NADC) organised by the ministry of home affairs.
According to Sudhir Vohra, professional adviser to the NADC, the winning design is very “Indian in nature and modern in approach”.
“They (the designers) were very sensitive to the requirement of the design. They have used the modern design technology to create the traditional Indian cultural approach,” Vohra said.
The winning design, chosen from 31 entries — created by New Delhi-based architect Sidhartha Talwar and landscape architect Nikhil Dhar, not only won R5 lakh and a citation but also became the design for the new National Police Memorial.
The new memorial would be constructed using Dhaulpur stone, red sandstone, white and coloured pebbles, stainless steel and green trees. It would be at the same site as the earlier one, which was pulled down following the Delhi High Court order for being an eyesore.
