Digitising land records: DDA to start work on building

In order to digitise its land, revenue and housing records, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will soon start construction of its seven-storey record room at Ghazipur in east Delhi.
The record room will keep all the DDA files and records, which are now spread across its different offices, at one place. The records will be digitised and and will make it easier for people to access files for conversion, allotment or other purposes.
"The design for the record room has been finalised and construction is about to begin," said a senior DDA official who didn't wish to be named.
“The building will have an area of 7,000 square feet with a capacity to accommodate about five lakh files. Work on digitisation will be carried out on two floors and four floors will have ‘compacators’ to house the files,” he said.
"Once the building is ready, all records and files from different DDA offices will be shifted and treated with chemicals to make them damp and insect proof," he said.
Apart from digitisation, which would even help in online tracking of files, backups would be made on microfilms too.
The record room is also going to be an energy efficient 'green' building. By using abundant natural light and ventilation, the DDA promises to save a lot of power.
