Sharpening his attack on Baba Ramdev, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh on Saturday dubbed his indefinite fast as a “five-star satyagraha” sponsored by the RSS and VHP to divert attention from “Sanghi terror”.
“Now it is absolutely clear as to what are the credentials of Baba Ramdev. He is openly supported by RSS BJP and VHP,” he said.
Alleging that the campaign “is to undo the Constitution and parliamentary democracy by encouraging people like Baba Ramdev to go on such fast”, Singh wondered “what kind of satyagraha is this of a baba who travels in a jet?”
“He has got five-star tents with all facilities. And he is doing satyagraha on issues, which he doesn’t know.”
His comments met with strong rebuttal from the BJP as well as the RSS.
BJP’s national spokesperson Shahnawaz Husain said in Lucknow, where the party’s national executive is underway: “Digvijaya Singh is saying Baba Ramdev is an RSS agent. We ask him whose agent is he? Earlier we did not take his statements seriously. But now we do, because he acts as an agent for someone else… He is Sonia Gandhi’s Congress general secretary.”
Husain said BJP supports Baba Ramdev “morally”.
“We have relations with every man who loves the country. Baba Ramdev’s dharna is against corruption. The BJP will support anyone who takes to the streets against corruption and black money,” he added.
RSS’s national media cell convenor Manmohan Vaidya hit out at Singh, saying he “saw RSS hand even in the 26/11 attack”.
