Price rise surfaced as one of the biggest reasons for the poor show of the Congress in the recently-concluded MCD elections in a meeting held to ascertain the reasons for the party’s poor show.
Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit held a meeting on Saturday where a majority of the MLAs cited price rise, particularly hike in milk prices just ahead of the election, dissidence, lack of intensity in campaigning and failure to highlight misdeeds of the BJP as major reasons for their defeat.
Dikshit analysed the reasons and factors that lead to their defeat and also discussed strategies for the upcoming assembly elections in 2013.
The chief minister, who convened the four-hour meeting, said corrective measures will be taken by them on the inputs. A report based on Saturday's meeting will also be sent to the party headquarters.
Sources said Dikshit said if there were shortcomings on part of the government or the DPCC then they will be addressed.
A number of MLAs from North and East Delhi also cited lack of intensity during the campaigning and alleged that some party workers supported independent candidates rather than working for the party candidates.
MLAs said residents of the unauthorised colonies, which were traditional Congress vote bank, did not support the party in the polls.
