Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, on Monday, highlighted the 'successful' completion of the CWG, while denouncing her detractors for unfairly targeting her. Dikshit, who is under the scanner following the CAG's indictment over her alleged irregularities in various Games-related projects, sought to clear the air over the issue.
"The biggest success last year was the successful conduct of the CWG. We achieved this marvellous success despite a number of obstacles. The Games helped us in accelerating the pace of development and proved to be an excellent opportunity to make world-class addition in our infrastructure and further improve the existing one. We did everything to avoid any disruption in developmental works during the Games," she said in her Independence Day speech after unfurling the tricolour at Chhattrasal Stadium.
Dikshit also highlighted the infrastructural development of the city. "The government is committed to infrastructure development. Whosoever criticises us, let them. We are not concerned about them. We will continue with this accelerated development," she added.
The CAG report tabled in the Parliament earlier in August, indicted Dikshit for her 'active involvement' in the sanctioning of work, which incurred a loss of Rs 30 crore for the exchequer. The Opposition had been holding rallies and demonstrations across the city in protest, demanding her resignation as well as a thorough probe into the allegations against her and the Delhi government.
