Improved availability of raw water from Haryana at the Wazirabad plant clubbed with a reduction in the quantum of water supplied to VIP areas eased the situation for the DJB on Tuesday.

The water utility said the supply situation was almost normal at Wazirabad. But continued shortfall at Haiderpur plant meant a shortage of up to 15 MGD per day in production.

However, the tail-end supply was yet to improve. Said Prafull Pathak from Asiad Village, "Plush areas such as ours too relies on tankers. Even today the supply was not satisfactory."

On Tuesday — a day after CM Sheila Dikshit instructed the DJB and the NDMC to reduce water supply in posh areas too — the civic body started cutting down on the generally liberal supply. The VIP areas receive about 250-300 litres per capita per day (lpcd) water as against other serviced parts under DJB that receive about 150-200 lpcd.

"Normal water supply will be restored as and when adequate water is received from DJB," said a NDMC statement.

"Cutting down on supply can be understood. But the timings are erratic," fumed Sushila Yadav, a housewife residing near Bengali Market.
