A middle-aged woman and her brother have been arrested by the southwest Delhi police for allegedly killing a Delhi Jal board (DJB) driver, who was having an illicit relationship with the woman, police said on Wednesday.

The victim's body with his throat slit was found stuffed in a suitcase, which was wrapped in a quilt and dumped at an isolated place in Dwarka's Sector 3, police said.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Inder Singh, 35, was murdered by the woman and her brother Rakesh, 24, because he was harbouring malicious intentions with respect to her daughter.

The woman had been warning Singh to mend his ways but when all her efforts proved futile, she hatched a plan to kill him and sought Rakesh's help, police said.

Anil Kumar Ojha, additional CP (southwest), said the two were arrested following investigation into the recovery of an unidentified body which was found stuffed in a suitcase and dumped in JJ Colony locality in Dwarka's Sector 3 on January 6.

"The suitcase was opened and a man's body was found bundled in a gunny bag.. A case of murder was registered at the Bindapur police station," said Ojha, adding further investigation revealed that a man from Mohan Garden near Uttam Nagar was missing from his home.

The photographs of the victim, Ojha said, were shown to the family of the missing man who identified him as Inder Singh. Further investigation into the matter revealed that Singh had an illicit relationship with a woman with whom he was in touch over phone on the day of his death.

"The woman broke down after she was confronted with concrete evidences which were against her. She disclosed that Singh helped her financially on several occasions and in return established physical relationships with her. For the past some days, he had developed an obsession for her daughter which was not acceptable to her. When despite her repeated warning, Singh did not mend his ways, she planned to kill him," added Ojha.
