According to the police, the incident took place around 3 p.m. when the accused Kanta Prasad (46) went to GB Road to allegedly visit a particular sex worker working in the area.

"The accused was drunk and he was carrying with him his licenced revolver. He got into an argument with the three men and shot at them,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Jaspal Singh.

He added that Prasad shot at Badri Kumar (26), Rishal (22) and the deceased Babu Lal (32). The three worked as helpers at brothel number 64 in the area.

The police said Prasad was reportedly married to a sex worker and was also involved with her sister, who also worked at the brothel.

"Prasad used to visit her regularly. He is said to be in a relationship with the woman in the building. Prasad is reportedly married to the woman. The woman's sister also stays with her. Prasad had gone to the brothel to meet his alleged sister-in-law but she refused as he was drunk. Prasad told his 'wife' that he would not go until he had met his sister-in-law.

The three then got into an argument," said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity.

The police said the women then called Badri Kumar, Rishal and Babu Lal for help. Prasad and the three men got into an argument, following which the former whipped out his licensed revolver and shot at the three.

Prasad was overpowered and beaten up by others present at the spot. He was eventually rescued by the police.

The four men were rushed to LNJP Hospital. "Babu Lal died of shock and the two other victims and the accused are being treated there," said Singh.

Prasad was taken into custody and his revolver confiscated by the police. Prasad belongs to Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, and had got the licence of the firearm from there in 2001. He got an all-India arms licence last year. A case of murder, attempted murder and violation of Arms Act has been registered against Prasad. He works as a supervisor in the Shahdara Zone.
