Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to tap solar power to help generate renewable energy.

"In consultation with the Delhi government, we are planning to install solar panels at Karkarduma and Noida Sector 21 stations and at the Yamuna Bank Depot in the initial phase. This, eventually, will provide electricity using appropriate technology," said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson of DMRC.

Based on its success, DMRC plans to harness solar energy further through its Phase III structures, Dayal added.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Managing Director Mangu Singh has directed that a special drive be launched that includes training of Metro officials in environment awareness and protection procedures in everyday operations.

He also directed the Chief Project Managers, in-charge of construction of Phase III, to ensure that all new contractors and sub-contractors are sensitised on environment issues.
