To ease out parking problem at its stations, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to construct multi-level parking lots on Build Operate Transfer basis.

In first phase, parking lots will come up at Janakpuri West, Rohini West and Pitampura metro stations. DMRC has invited requests for qualification (RFQ) from private developers for the project.

“The existing parking lots at all the three stations have exhausted. Due to their proximity to important commercial hubs there is an urgent need to develop multi-level parking lots at these stations,” a DMRC spokesperson said. More than 15,000 commuters use each of these stations everyday.

According to DMRC officials, there will be a provision to accommodate 800 cars at Janakpuri West station while Rohini West and Pitampura will cater to 550 and 400 cars respectively, in addition to two wheelers.

The bidder would be allowed to choose whether he wants to develop a manual, semi-automatic or fully automated parking lot, said DMRC officials.

The parking lots will be given to the concessionaire for 30 years. The bidder will be allowed to develop commercial activities like shopping malls or hypermarket for consumer goods and restaurants and food courts.

The bidder will have to make arrangements for basic amenities like urinals and drinking water facilities for the commuters.
