It seems that the Delhi Police and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) are at loggerheads over a piece of land in the Dheerpur area of northwest Delhi.
Delhi Police had released a tender to construct a small township in the area for its staff. Problem arose after the DMRC started eying the same piece of land in Dheerpur for extending the Metro network. Delhi Police sources said the department had recently received a letter from the DMRC stating that it wanted the 60 acre of land to extend the Jahangirpuri line.
"They have purchased land around Dheerpur and wanted this plot too. We replied to them stating that the land belonged to the Delhi Police and we had already released tender for it," said a senior Delhi Police officer, requesting not to be named.
The police are planning to construct over 5,000 houses for all ranks of officials. The project will be initiated on PPP model.
"There is a proposal of police housing scheme through PPP model on 60 acres of land in northwest Delhi. The land was purchased from the Delhi Jal Board. The location is well-connected and suitable for housing schemes. We can't give this land to anyone," the officer added.
A DMRC official claimed that the tussle was over as the Delhi Police had already initiated the process and the corporation would look for some other piece of land. But a senior Delhi Police official, on condition of anonymity, said the DMRC was still eying the land and trying to pressurise the police department to abandon its claim.
Sources said the builder would not only construct flats, but also a host of facilities like schools, shopping complex, community halls, dispensary and parking lots on the land. After the first stage of the bidding process (request for qualification) earlier this year, bidders were shortlisted for the second stage (request for proposal). The tender was opened two days ago.
