A 13-year-old girl was bitten by her neighbour’s pet dog in Mayur Vihar’s phase I, landing the owner in trouble, on Thursday evening.
A case has been lodged against the dog’s owner and she is likely to be arrested soon. Police said the victim, Nidhi Shri, a class 7 student at Ahlcon public school, left her Fine Apartments house when the dog began barking at her.
“Around 6 pm on Thursday the girl was roaming inside the apartment complex. Bhuma Kumari was sitting on a bench with her dog. The dog first barked at Nidhi and she complained to Kumari. But Kumari asked her to carry on saying the dog won’t harm her,” said a police officer. However, the dog attacked Nidhi when she came in front of it.
Nidhi was rescued by some locals.
“Nidhi was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and the police was also informed. The girl was discharged after the medical examination,” the officer said. “The girl filed a written complaint and we have registered a case under section 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal) of IPC,” he said.
Police said the case was filed in the evening and as per Supreme Court guidelines a woman can’t be arrested after sunset. “She is a working woman and was in her office today. We will arrest her tomorrow,” the officer said.
Police said the neighbours have also complained against the woman and said they have asked her several times to keep the dog inside as it is a threat to residents.
