Investigation into the murder of 50-year-old scrap dealer Satpal Garg and his wife Ramkali has revealed that the killer(s) had a friendly entry into the house and stayed there for more than half an hour.
Ten different teams from the northwest district police have been formed to investigate the case from all possible angles.
Investigators are questioning labourers who were engaged in construction work at a building opposite the victims’ house.
The couple was found dead in two different rooms on the ground floor of their house near Rani Bagh.
The police suspect the involvement of an ‘insider’ because the assailants ransacked only the bedroom where cash and jewellery were kept.
Investigators say the assailants ransacked the bedroom to make the incident look like a case of murder for robbery. They, however, have yet not ruled out robbery.
“Prima facie it seems that the killers were aware of the topography of the house and the fact that the Garg family does not lock the main gate of their house during daytime,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity.
“Three tea cups found on a table in the drawing room gives an impression that the number of assailants was more than one. They had had tea before executing the plan for which they had arrived,” the officer said.
According to the victims’ nephew Suresh Garg, the assailants targeted those places where valuables were kept.
“The killers went inside the adjacent room as well but took away only my uncle’s wallet that was kept in the cupboard. If the killers were robbers, why would they leave the laptop on the bed and take away only its bag,” said Suresh.
Garg ran a metal scrap business from Tulsi Nagar with his son Sanjay. His other son Naveen Garg owns a car accessories shop in Budh Vihar.
