The heavy downpour on Friday disrupted Metro services on line 1, which connects Dilshad Garden with Rithala.
For about three hours, the Metro ran on a single track between two stations — Shastri Park and Seelampur — resulting in the bunching of trains on the track.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials said they had to run a Metro on the single line as Delhi Metro’s track monitoring cell had raised an alarm about the stability of soil under the track on the stretch.
“One track of the stretch remained unused between 11.30am and 2.15pm that resulted in the bunching of trains on the stretch disrupting the Metro service. However, normal service was restored around 2.30 pm,” said a DMRC spokesperson.
Commuters travelling on the corridor complained that they had to wait for over 30 minutes for a Metro. There was a huge rush at Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, Welcome and Seelampur metro stations.
Meanwhile, some of the metro stations were water logged. These included Laxmi Nagar, Jangpura and Shivaji Stadium Metro stations.
