Traffic snarl on MG Road, on Thursday, portended the shape of things to come in the near future with the work on the Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon (RMG) in full swing and weatherman predicting heavy rains.
The traffic on MG Road and another road connecting it to the Gurgaon Expressway was moving at snail’s pace due to diversions. The situation got worse on Thursday because of the downpour.
Though work on the Rs1000-crore project took off in July 2010, the disruption in the traffic flow became noticeable in last couple of months when RMG Ltd diverted traffic by erecting barricades along the metro alignment. The proposed Metro route starts from Sikanderpur Metro station to meander through DLF Cybercity and DLF City Phase 2 and 3.
Commuters are complaining about the unplanned development as they are the worst sufferers.
“I planned to go with my family to DT Mega Mall when I lost my way due to the diversions. We have been stuck in this jam for the past two hours. Is there any solution to this problem?” Sanjana Subramaniam, a resident of Sector 52, said.
The RMGL said steps had been taken to deal with the traffic problem.
“We’re aware of the two locations where jam is caused on a daily basis. We’re doing our best to avoid jam along the construction route,” said Sarvesh Tiwari Sarvesh Tiwari, spokesman, RMG.
