The CBI is convinced that former Lucknow deputy chief medical officer Dr YS Sachan committed suicide in June last year. Dr Sachan is considered the main conspirator in the murders of two CMOs — Dr VK Arya and Dr BP Singh.

Sachan was found dead in the first floor toilet of the Lucknow jail hospital with injury marks on his body. There were rumours that Sachan was murdered by the henchmen of a mafia-turned political leader.

“There are at least half-a-dozen close-circuit cameras installed on the hospital premises. A review of its footage has not shown entry or exit of any suspect. We have checked antecedents of all jail employees and inmates but nothing suspicious has been found,” said a CBI official.

According to CBI sources, all injury marks on Sachan's body have been found to be self-inflicted and ante-mortem or before his death. After consulting experts at AIIMS, the agency has formed the opinion the blood that came out of wounds was not enough to kill him, therefore he hanged himself.
