Nearly a year after signing the agreement for the automated multi-level parking at Defence Colony, the project may finally be set in motion.
The contractor responsible for carrying out the project has submitted the drawings of the project to the South Municipal Corporation for approval. Once approved, the project that was announced in 2007 will finally be able to start on the ground.
"The drawings show the location where the parking will be built. The next level of work such as approvals from environment and fire will happen only once the corporation approves of the drawings. So the onus lies with the corporation on how much time they take to clear it," said a source.
According to the initial plan, the automated multi level parking will also have some underground floors to accommodate cars. The rest of the decision on the final look will be taken afterwards.
Project was signed in March 2012 with the unified MCD but was hanging fire since the civic body split into three.
Recently, the project came under much criticism from residents and traders of Defence Colony. They said they were wary of the corporation's decision to open shopping outlets at the proposed parking. They also said that parking will destruct the green area.
