To keep a check on the medical preparedness and response time taken by government and private hospitals in the city, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is conducting an earthquake preparedness exercise.

The Delhi Emergency Management Exercise (DEMEX) will be conducted in all districts in Delhi from February 10 to 14.

“The exercise will exclusively look at medical preparedness and response. It will cover all government, private hospitals and ambulances services. The exercise will train those in-charge of PCR vans, nurses and other paramedical staffers to be fully prepared for any emergency,” said Vijay Dev, divisional commissioner, Delhi government.

According to officials, hospitals will be asked to earmark beds for the drill, so they learn where and how to give proper attention to the injured.
A core committee with a representative from all concerned departments will be constituted for DEMEX.

DDMA, in collaboration with NDMA, has been conducting a major earthquake preparedness exercise in Delhi since December. This is the first such state-wide programme in the country.

“The exercise will culminate with a state-wide mega mock drill on February 15. In this, various stake holders, including government and private sector, RWAs and others will participate,” added Dev.
