A 25-year-old driver was arrested here for allegedly stealing his NRI employer's credit card for not giving him the money he had sought and using it to buy jewellery, police said today.
Jaspreet Singh Bhatia, the driver of Keshav Bhagat who resides in Moscow, was apprehended from Kakrola in Uttam Nagar recently for stealing the credit card and buying jewellery, BS Jaiswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), said.
Bhatia had allegedly bought a gold necklace, a gold chain and a gold ring from a jewellery shop in Rohini on October 23.
"He had made payment through a credit card but did not produce his identity proof to the shopkeeper. While the transaction was made, a telephone call was received from an unknown person who told the shopkeeper that the credit card was stolen.
"The shopkeeper tried to apprehend the customer but he fled away from the spot on his motorcycle. On the statement of the shopkeeper Ashok Kumar, a case was registered," Jaiswal said.
Bhatia was apprehended from Kakrola after raids at the residences of his relatives for days.
During interrogation, Jaiswal said, Bhatia told police that Bhagat had visited India some days ago and gone back to Russia.
"Bhatia asked for some money from Bhagat but he did not give it. Angered at this, Bhatia stole the credit card," Jaiswal said.
