Gearing up for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the government is all set to train about 10,000 drivers and support staff as tourist-friendly guides for the biggest sport extravaganza in the Capital.

Drivers, conductors and support staff would be given training to handle visitors, including officials and sportspersons, during the Commonwealth Games next year, a senior tourism ministry official said.

Haryana Institute of Public Administration at Gurgaon, Delhi Institute of Hotel Management and ITDC have been shortlisted to impart training to 5,000 drivers and support staff in the first phase from next month. “Our aim is to make them presentable and visitor-friendly. We have devised a training capsule for these people who would be accompanying officials, sportspersons and visitors during the Games,” the official said.
