A 50-year-old man and a teenager were killed after a speeding car, allegedly being driven by a drunk driver, hit a road divider and then overturned, crushing three persons underneath it in northwest Delhi on Tuesday evening.

"The incident was reported from Mongolpuri Industrial Area's phase I around 6.30pm and the victims have been identified as Amreen (14) and Kamruddin Ali (50). Both died on the spot," said a senior police officer.

Police said Sherunisa (45), Amreen's mother, was also injured in the accident, which occurred when the errant driver, identified as Monu, was speeding from Sultanpuri's A block to S block.

"Eyewitnesses claimed Monu, who was heavily drunk, was accompanied by a eunuch in the car when he lost control of his TATA Indigo after scraping against the pavement at breakneck speed," the officer said.

"The car fell roof first on the victims, trapping Kamruddin and Amreen completely underneath while Sherunisa got away with injuries to her legs and back."

Police said one section of bystanders engaged itself in pulling out the victims from underneath the car while another caught hold of and subsequently thrashed Monu before handing him over to the police.

A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered.
