DTC buses run over two

Two youths, including an engineering student lost their lives, in separate road accidents involving Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses in the Capital in the last 24-hours.

Two youths, including an engineering student lost their lives, in separate road accidents involving Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses in the Capital in the last 24-hours.

A 17-year-old second-year civil engineering student was killed after he was run over by a speeding DTC bus around 3 pm in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala.

According to police, the victim, identified as Vishal Kumar, a resident of Shahdara, was trying to board the DTC bus when the accident took place.

A 22-year-old cyclist lost his life after being hit by a speeding DTC bus around 10pm on Wednesday in west Delhi's Paschim Vihar.

The deceased was identified as Vikas Kumar, a resident of Tagore Garden Extension. Vikas worked with a footwear factory in Mangolpuri industrial area and he was returning home with his brother, Mukesh Kumar on separate cycles.

"The DTC AC bus, plying on route number 926 B, hit Vikas's cycle from behind near Paschim Vihar West metro station. The impact of the hit was such that Vikas fell off the cycle and came under the wheels of the bus. He died on the spot," said the errant driver, Rajesh Kumar, was overpowered by locals and handed over to police.
