Colleges under Delhi University may soon be ranked on the basis of performance. The university’s executive council (EC) passed the proposal to allow accreditation of the colleges by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council at a meeting held on Saturday with two dissents.
The NAAC reviews a college’s infrastructure and facilities along with the performance to give it a grade. The EC also passed the proposal of lowering the component of written exams for the new foundation courses. The students will only have to appear for a 20-mark examination for foundation courses at the end of the semester. The exam paper will be set by the varsity but the evaluation will be done by the college. The foundation courses carry weightage of 75 marks each. The remaining 55 marks will be awarded on the basis of a student’s performance in class.
The decision to put in place a biometric attendance for teachers was also passed in the meeting. The Delhi High Court issued a notice to the university asking it to implement the system at the earliest. The EC members also passed the proposal to rename Ram Lal Anand Evening College as Aryabhatta College.
The ordinances for the appointment and promotion of teachers were also discussed in detail and screening before interviews during appointment was opposed by many.
