There was panic at the New Sanjay Amar Colony area in east Delhi’s Farsh Bazar after the roof of a house collapsed and the smell of explosives was detected at the site.
Though police have ruled out any foul play, they are waiting for the forensic examination report to ascertain what caused the collapse.
Two women suffered injuries in the incident and they are undergoing treatment at the Hedgewar hospital, police said.
A senior police officer said they received information about the collapse at 4.51pm through a call made at the police control room.
The incident took place in a residential building owned by one Amar Singh, who stays there with his four sons and wife.
“After we got the call, a police team along with a rescue team from the fire department reached the spot. Two women, who were trapped inside the debris, were rescued and rushed to the hospital,” said the senior officer.
During site inspection, investigators detected the smell of explosives and said that the roof may have collapsed due to a blast.
Senior police officers immediately reached the spot and a forensic team was also called to collect samples from the area.
“The cause of the blast is not known yet. Only a detailed forensic examination can say what caused the blast. Prima facie, there is no foul play in the incident,” said Rajan Bhagat, Delhi Police spokesperson.
