The Election Commission on Friday gave the BJP permission to launch a television channel carrying Gujarat CM Narendra Modi initials with conditions to monitor political advertisements and paid news.

The channel called 'NaMo', was launched a day after the December-bound assembly elections were announced in the state but was shut on October 5 because of the model code of conduct in force.

The poll body gave its nod after the District Electoral Officer in Ahmedabad, where the channel is headquartered, had sought EC's permission.

Imposing certain conditions, the commission said all political ads broadcast during election will have to be first cleared by Media Certification and Monitoring Committee.
