EDMC cracks whip on illegal dairy owners

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) began its crackdown on illegal dairies in east Delhi amid protest from the owners.

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) began its crackdown on illegal dairies in east Delhi amid protest from the owners. Forty buffaloes were seized on day one from Shahdara north and south zones. In Krishna Nagar, 18 buffaloes were seized from the illegal dairies in a raid.

“The dairy owners overpowered the driver of one truck. The truck was carrying six buffaloes. An FIR against the action was lodged and the remaining buffaloes were sent to a cattle pond in Timarpur,” said a senior EDMC official.

The dairy owners staged protest in all areas where the drive was being conducted and also met the EDMC mayor in hope of some kind of interim relief.

“The dairy owners handed over a memorandum to me on Friday. We are acting on the court order’s,” said Annapurna Mishra, mayor, EDMC.
