The announcement was made by chief priests of two prominent mosques in the capital - the Fatehpuri Masjid and the Jama Masjid on Tuesday.

"The new moon of Zil Haj was sighted and Eid-ul-Azha will be on December 21," Maulana Mufti Mohammed Mukkaram, the Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Masjid, said in a statement.
