A 70-year-old woman living alone was found murdered at Amar Colony in south Delhi on Sunday evening.
The police said the woman had four sons and all of them lived nearby.
The police suspect robbery or burglary as the motive behind the crime. The entry inside the house was friendly.
The incident came to light around 8 p.m. on Sunday when neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from the house. One of them called up the elderly woman’s son Harish Kumar, who lives nearby, and informed him.
When Harish came to the house, he found it locked from outside. The police was informed and the door was forced open.
She was living on the first floor of Janta Flats in Garhi area of Amar Colony.
The woman was found dead in the living room of the house. “Her body was highly decomposed. She was last seen on Friday night by the neighbours,” said Shalini Singh, DCP (southeast).
Police said as the body was highly decomposed, there were no visible signs of injury on her body. A postmortem report would throw light on the cause of death, police said.
Police said the woman was working for a political party and was socially active.
Her sons were ascertaining the amount of cash and valuables stolen from the house. Police said the door was bolted from outside and it seems the assailants knew the victim.
