You will probably say goodbye to jams in south Delhi in the near future. The Delhi Traffic Police is finally implementing its Rs 300-crore intelligent traffic system (ITS) that was pending for more than two years.

The ITS will be now be set up in a phased manner and its first beneficiary will be south Delhi, especially the 18-km corridor connecting Rao Tula Ram Marg with Gurgaon via Gyara Moorthy, Sardar Patel Marg and Dhaula Kuan.

"We want this project to be implemented in a phased manner and for that we would involve government agencies," said a senior traffic police official.

One of the biggest benefits of the ITS is its signalling system that can measure traffic volumes on a real-time basis and change traffic lights accordingly.

The traffic police will soon send a proposal to the Delhi government, union home ministry and lieutenant-governor, seeking their approval.
