The nursery admission season is not just about parents seeking a seat for their children anymore. It’s now also a platform for them to show their enterprising side.
While 2008 saw the launch of a book (Parents’ Handbook of Nursery Admissions in Delhi) and websites nurseryadmission.com and admissionsnursery.com, this year a couple even organised an admission fair.
Now, parents will also be able to receive admission news on their cell phones via text messages. Rajan Arora and Sumit Vohra, of nurseryadmissions.com and admissionsnursery.com respectively, are introducing the service soon.
“Not every parent has access to Internet all the time. So, if you can’t gather information, we’ll bring it to you. And what better way than to SMS it?” said Arora, who starts the service this week.
Confusion among parents regarding admission dates and procedures has created a need for such projects.
So, while Amit Sachdev and his wife got their son admitted to The Banyan Tree School last year, they also resolved to make the process simpler for others.
The result: an admission fair in Gurgaon early this month where close to 50 schools participated and parents could register and fix interaction dates with schools.
“We didn’t want parents to run form pillar to post like we did. So we’ve tried to bring all the important schools under one roof for them,” said Sachdev.
These enterprising couples, however, maintain that they’re not doing this to make money.
“I started the site last year and haven’t earned a rupee out of it, after investing a couple of lakhs of my own. The SMS alerts will also be free of cost,” said Vohra, who also launched a book titled 7/11: Tips to Nursery Admission, last month.
