A first time flier was reportedly bundled into a car outside the departure wing of the domestic airport, robbed at gunpoint and then abandoned at an isolated road in Azadpur area earlier this week.
Sanjeev Gupta, an engineer with a private company, had arrived from Mumbai late on Monday night when the incident occurred. A case of robbery was registered on Thursday at the Palam Airport police station.
On June 30, Sanjeev had arrived from a Go Air flight around 10.30 p.m. at the domestic terminal of the IGI airport.
“I was flying for the first time so I do not much about the pre paid taxis. I came out of the terminal and saw some autorickhaws near the departure wing. A Hyundai car was also parked there. A man who was standing near the car said that he could drop me till ISBT, Kashmere Gate, from where I could get a bus for Panipat. While I was talking to him, three other men came from behind and pushed me into the car and then drove away,” Sanjeev told
Sanjeev said they were carrying guns and kept on abusing him. “They took away my gold chain and Rs 7,000 that I had on me. They then asked me for my ATM card. They asked me for the password, when I refused they started beating me. I gave into their demands,” said Sanjeev. Sanjeev told the police that the accused had also withdrawn Rs 53,000 from his account.
“They kept on driving for about two hours and abandoned me somewhere. I took a lift from a tempo driver who dropped me at Samalkha after he heard my plight,” said Sanjeev.
Sanjeev lives in Bhiwadi (Haryana) and after reaching Samlakha he contacted his family members.
“I approached the Haryana police but they refused to take my complaint. I came to Delhi on Thursday and lodged a complaint at the Palam airport police station. A case of robbery was registered,” said Sanjeev.
Police said that they have registered a case and were investigating the matter.
