A first-year B.Tech student was found dead at an isolated plot in west Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area, police said. There were deep injury marks on the 22-year-old's body.
The victim, Dharmender alias Aryan, hailing from Sikar in Rajasthan, was pursuing engineering in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. His body was found around 7.30am on Sunday in Swayam Siddha colony.
The police have not been able to determine what circumstances brought the victim to Delhi.
"We are trying to ascertain that when and under what circumstances Dharmender came to Delhi and what was he doing in the area," a police officer said.
According to police, there were deep injury marks on Dharmender's chin and right hand. Some of his bones were also broken.
"Prima facie it seems to be a case of murder due to personal enmity as the victim's mobile phone and other valuables were found intact. There might be a love angle to the case," said additional commissioner of police V Renganathan.
According to a senior police officer, the victim used to study at a private engineering coaching institute in Delhi and reside in the same area in 2011.
"It has been learnt that Dharmender had eloped with a girl living in the neighbourhood while staying in the same locality in 2011. A case was registered against him and the girl was rescued a few days later. After that, he was not seen in Delhi," said the police officer.
