Guddi, a eunuch who is in the election fray for the Gautam Budh Nagar constituency, was stumped when she was handed the nomination form on Saturday.

Unable to comprehend some of the instructions given in English in the form, she demanded a Hindi version of the form. Officials expressed their inability to help her and instead suggested that she fill it up with the help of an advocate.

Refusing to fill the form “in any other country’s language”, she wrote to the district magistrate. She was provided with a translation on Monday, following which she filed her nomination papers. District Magistrate Deepak Aggarwal later told HT candidates who faced a problem regarding the filling of forms could contact him.

Ansari community to boycott polls

The Ansaris, considered a socially backward section among the Muslims, have decided not to vote in the forthcoming polls. Decrying that no political party has given a ticket to any member of the Ansari community — which has 20 per cent more votes than any other section like the Sheikhs or Pathans — the all India Ansari Mahapanchayat has given a call to its members to boycott the election.

“We will also show black flags during political campaigns of all parties and ban entry of candidates in our areas,” said Moh Manjoor Aalam Ansari, the mahapanchayat president, in a press release.
