A former director of AIIMS has been summoned by a city court in a decade-old criminal case of forgery alleging he had denied another doctor the post of assistant professor in the Institute.

Metropolitan Magistrate AK Chaturvedi on Saturday issued summons for July 14 to SK Kacker, former AIIMS Director and member secretary of the selection committee in 1993.

The court took cognisance of the complaint filed by Anoop Saraya, who had alleged that Kacker in connivance with Rakesh K Tandon, then head of department (Gastroenterology), had deliberately forged minutes of the selection committee meeting and deleted his name from the waiting list, in which he was mentioned at the top.

Saraya, who was interviewed by the selection committee for the post of assistant professor in the Gastroenterology Department of the Institute on July 20, 1993, further alleged that the accused had maliciously interpolated the name of a less qualified doctor in the list.

The complaint had alleged that Kacker had prepared a "forged" document in August 1996, which was placed before the Governing Body in which only the names of the two candidates were mentioned and his name, as the waitlisted candidate, was "deliberately removed".

Even as the name of one of the two selected doctors was not approved by the Governing Body, Saraya could not make it to the list of candidates as his name had already been omitted.

The matter came to light when the complainant was offered the post of assistant professor at AIIMS in February 1996, which was challenged by a candidate who also had faced the interview along with Saraya in 1993.

During the court proceedings, the counsel for the Institute said that Kacker had tampered with the records of the selection committee.

Saraya then filed a complainat against Kacker and Tandon in Defence Colony Police Station on February 29, 1996, accusing them of forgery and cheating.
