Three-time Congress MP from Faridabad Avtar Singh Bhadana resigned from the party on Tuesday citing inaction by the high command in hauling up leaders who contributed to the drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls in Haryana.

“I sent my resignation to the party’s national president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday,” Bhadana confirmed to the Hindustan Times over phone on Tuesday.

Prodded for a reason, he said the party high command had brushed aside all the issues raised after the party’s drubbing in Haryana during the Lok Sabha polls.

“I did not see any reason for me to continue in the party”, he said. He said he had “exposed all the faces who had contributed to the party’s defeat in Haryana and also in the Faridabad constituency, but unfortunately no action was taken against these people”.

Bhadana held Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his coterie responsible for the Congress’ poor performance in Haryana. He claimed all Congress loyalists had either left the party or were in the process of doing so due to the chief minister.

Bhadana had won the Faridabad Lok Sabha seat in 1991, 2004 and 2009. During the 2014 Parliamentary polls, he was pitted against the BJP’s Krishanpal Gujjar who defeated Bhadana by a huge margin of over 4.60 lakh votes polls.

Though Bhadana refused to divulge his future plans, social media was abuzz with rumours that he could be moving towards joining Om Prakash Chautala’s Indian National Lok Dal.
